Let us Help Raise the Roof for the Bethune House!
It aims to raise funds for the women residents of Bethune House Migrant Women’s Refuges. Ensuring that the residents have healthy foods, a place to call home while they are pursuing their cases and ensure the shelters can stay open while serving the many migrant workers in need during this pandemic. Since the COVID 19, the services of Bethune House have expanded to include those staying in other hostels that we failed to accommodate and those who are in quarantine. The budgetary needs also tripled.
Migrant workers are vital to Hong Kong society in supporting local families and the community. They care for us and now we need to care for them as well. Neglecting migrant workers in this time, hurts our community here in Hong Kong. As we continue to fight the global pandemic, we must continue to support those who have continued to care for us for so long. Alone in a foreign country, migrant workers in crisis do not know where to turn to. Bethune House provides a safe, secured and accessible place for them to begin to process what they experienced and support them as they pursue their cases.
Bethune House is forerunner for services in Hong Kong dedicated for distressed migrant women since 1986. We provide shelter services (food and accommodation), emergency relief assistance, legal and medical case support, counselling and psychosocial activities for Asian migrant women, mainly foreign domestic helpers. We have pioneered a holistic approach in caring for them. This includes contributing to the coping capacity and empowerment of the individual’s psycho-social welfare. We provide safe, secure and supportive environment to these Asian migrant women in crisis as they work on their problems, access justice, and survive their hardships.
